Since the beginning of human existence, there has been an existence living with the humans known as "Animal Spirits" with every single human is born with one. That is until September Fifth Ninteen-Ninty-Three when Nova Seabrooke is born into the world without her Animal Spirit. Her presence has gone unnoticed until the first day of the year Two-Thousand-Thirteen, when a group of Elite Animal Spirits sense her presence and decide to use her to declare another war on humans.
At the same time the Animal Counsel is alerted to her presence by a Cougar Spirit by the name of Arik who has not been matched to a human; knowing that Elites would soon find the existence of the girl and figuring that Arik and Nova had to be connected have sent Arik to find the girl.
