the tribe of the short grass is a peaceful, yet protective clan that lives on a old nofur training place. the small tribe of cats have many customs, though.
for seasons, the training system for the tribe of the short grass has remained unchanged. and it will remain unchanged for many moons to come. the training scheme is that a teacher will be selected for a kit when it is 6 moons old. the newly named softpaw then trains for another 6 moons before they become a warrior at 12 moons.
the tribe of the short grass has three main gods- harmony, a long furred calico with the knowledge of all the herbs in the world -titan, a black smoke with the power of battle- and star, the leader, a genderless wisp of a spirit cat with endless knowledge and loyalty to all cats that stretches beyond the tribe law. then there are the minor gods- boris, a small blue tabby tom who is the god of youth and play- vixen, a beautiful torbie who is the goddess of love and happiness, and finally reed, who is a large dusty brown tom who posseses the gift of mentoring. who the tribe worships these cats, dedicating two days every season to them- one holiday, and the passover day.
in spring, there is a day called the great lake haul. basically, this is when each warrior has to fetch a pebble from the botom of the lake, and a golden fish. the cat who gets these items first wins, and has first pick of the prey pile for a half moon. this day symbolises the importance of a warriors strength, and is tribute to the god titan.
the passover from spring to summer, and as this day is generally hot, all the clan spends a day swimming, fishing, and lazing by the lake and creek (the creek is for younger members, the lake for older ones). this holiday is a restful day, for the tribe after their hard work.
in summer, the holiday for the tribe is the day of new leaves. this holiday is around the date when all the shrubs, trees and other plants are sprouting new leaves. the clan leader takes the clan to a special field in the middle of the forest, and in this forest grows a selection of flowers. the aim is to make each other pretty, and to spend quality time with your clan. this holiday is a tribute to the spirit of relationships, vixen. this is by far the most romantic holiday, and many mates propose on this day.
the passover for summer is the holiday called the day of many spirits, and during this each family during the clan gathers to make contact with their ancestors. this day serves the purpose of informing youngsters about important ancestors and historical events.
the holiday for autumn is mischief night, and on this night apprentices and young warriors (12-22 moons) are able to pull pranks and cause havoc among the camp and younger warriors. small pranks are permitted, camp-wide mischief is not tolerated. this holiday is in honour of boris, and the first night a young softpaw participates in this event is referred to as one of the highlights of their lives.
in autumn, the passover is called the day of falling leaves, and the best way to describe it would be a giant-hide and-seek game for the whole clan. nursing queens and queens close to kitting are not able to play. all the clan hides in piles of fallen leaves, and one cat it selected to be "it". they find other members of the clan, as they find cats the found ones are able to help as well. the last cat to be found is the next "it". this game is a celebration of the joy of games.
in winter, the holiday is called the night of the shining lights. this holiday is very special, and during the day many clan members give each other presents such as feathers and shells. a popular gift among mates is a reed-woven collar. this is paw-weaven by the healer, and needs to be ordered several moons beforehand. the "collar" is then presented to the she-cat as a sign of love. for payment, the healer demands two day's work herb-collecting as a payment. in the night, there is a feast, and, sometime during the night, the shining lights (northern lights) begin. the clan stays up throughout the night, feasting, laughing, and spending quality time with their family and the spirits, who watch over the proceedings from the stars. this holiday is a dedication to all of the gods.

the first ceremony in a tribe cat's life will be the ceremony welcoming them to the clan. this is the kit-water ceremony, and is held when the kitten reaches one moon. this is were the kitten will be presented at the front of the clan, and the healer will smear water from the sacred raindrop nut ( a nut-shell filled with raindrops) onto the kit's forehead. if the water dries immediately, then the kit has been approved by the gods, but if it drops onto the floor, then the kit has been disapproved.

the second important ceremony in a tribe cat's life will be the softpaw naming ceremony. this is where the kit, once having reached six moons, will be welcomed into the tribe as softpaw. the leader assigns a teacher to the newly named softpaw, and they are to teach the younger cat until they are twelve moons.[/font][/color][/right]
