Strutting out of the warriors' den, Dreamcatcher looked around the camp, noticing how empty it seemed. As the tortoiseshell female stretched her stiff muscles, yawning, she wondered where everyone was. Shrugging it off, she sat down near the den and began to smooth down her ruffled fur with her tongue, rasping it over her soft, tri-colored fur.
When she was finished, the warrior lifted her head and closed her eyes, feeling the crisp winter breeze in her face.

Sparroweye shivered as he entered the camp, two mice dangling from his jaws. The fresh-kill weren't very fat, but they may feed an apprentice or two for the day.
Sparroweye wasn't too fond of Leaf-bare, he decided as he dropped the dead prey into the fresh-kill pile. He shook himself, his brown tabby pelt fluffing up as much as it could against the chilly weather. He gazed at the fresh-kill pile for a couple of heartbeats before turning away from it. He'd eat later.
The tom blinked as his amber eyes caught sight of Dreamcatcher sitting outside of the warriors den with her eyes closed. What was she doing? If she was tired, why didn't she just sleep inside the den? Wasn't she cold?
Sparroweye figured it wasn't any of his business what his clanmate was doing, and settled himself down near the den in one of the sunniest patches in the camp. It wasn't that warm, but Sparroweye wanted to lay in the cold to rest but stay awake. It wouldn't do for him to sleep through the Sunhigh Patrol.

Sensing another cat's presence, Dreamcatcher opened her eyes and stared at Sparroweye, whiskers quivering. Thanks to her long pelt, the cold didn't bother her for the most part. Getting to her paws, the lean tortie trotted over to her fellow warrior.
On her way to the opposite side of the camp, Dreamcatcher spotted Sparroweye's catch on top of the freshkill pile, the wind stirring the mice's fur. Stomach growling slightly, she realized that she hadn't eaten yet, although she padded past the small pile. It would be rude to be walking toward someone and then stop for food.
When she reached the tom, she glanced down at him and nodded. "Hey," she greeted nonchalantly.

Ebonynight wasn't at all silent. The black tomcat was cursing and shouting, tripping over his own paws as he came stumbling out of the warriors den. It wasn't an unusual occurrence. It was no secret that while the deputy was a great fighter and had many leadership qualities, he was as clumsy as a kit. Couldn't hunt worth a damn either.
A worm clung to his coat and thorns seemed to be poking him from all sides.
Payback likely from when he'd put just the same things into the apprentices nests. Sometimes it was hard to believe this prank loving cat could have been chosen for deputy. "Damn apprentices... kick.... ouch..." his mutterings spaced in and out as he moved, kicking this and that off of him.

Surprised, Dreamcatcher looked up at Ebonynight's appearance and left Sparroweye, trotting over to the deputy. "Why so angry?" the lean tortoiseshell asked, amusement in her smooth voice.
She knew the black tom was doing all he could to be an amazing deputy, and she respected that. However, she also knew how clumsy he could be, which made his hunting skills a bit shabby. Still, she thought he was fantastic at what he did, despite his flaws. Besides, nobody was good at everything.

"Apprentices filled my nest with worms and thorns," he grumbled, not fully realizing he was answering a question until he glanced over to blink at the warrior. And not just any warrior, a female warrior.
For a short moment his mind went blank and the ebony tom felt his mouth working but no words seemed capable of leaving his tongue. Knowing he looked ten times a fool he snapped his jaw shut and straightened up. Not that it did much to fix his ruffled coat, alive with thorns and one wiggling worm. "I'm so sorry about my disheveled appearance and manner, m'lady," he excused sincerely, "normally I would never show myself in public like this, I just... I just..."
Despite being a prankster and a clutz he certainly was a sweetheart, and every so much a gentleman.

The tortie purred as she looked Ebonynight over. Why would apprentices do that to the clan deputy? Hopefully he'd punish them, as she had no idea that he'd done it first.
"Nah, I don't mind," Dreamcatcher chirped, sinking her claws into the ground. Ebonynight certainly was odd, but she didn't mind.

The deputy seemed utterly relieved to hear that and after a heavy sigh he awkwardly sank down onto his haunches, twisting about to reach for the nearest needle. Time for him to work of this and think of his revenge.

Dreamcatcher watched. "Need some help getting those thorns out?" she asked, moving forward.

The deputy looked up from his work and nodded, "yes, please." While he could certainly get to some of them he couldn't reach most without getting poked by others.

She nodded and began to nose through the deputy's black fur, feeling a thorn prick her muzzle. Quickly, Dreamcatcher sank her teeth into the prickle and yanked it out, spitting it on the ground.
